Over 100 Dogs Rescued From NYC Hoarding Situation

Back on June 26th, 2025, officers with the New York Police Department came upon a gruesome discovery.

According to reports, a 73-year-old woman was found deceased in a small Brooklyn apartment with over 100 dogs living with her.

As the story became headline news, we learned that the dogs were living in filth. They were walking on floors caked in dirt and feces and many of the dogs were severely matted.

Sadly, not all of them made it out alive.

The Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), who originally took in the 100 dogs, needed all the help they could get. 2 Hudson Valley based rescues, CARE of DC and Hudson Valley Animal Rescue Sanctuary, stepped up to the plate and took in 40 of the rescued dogs.

5 Puppies Rescued From Hoarding Situation Ready For Adoption at CARE Of DC

During the NYC rescue, in the middle of the madness, a dog that was being taken from the house gave birth to a litter of puppies.

CARE of DC shared a sweet update this week on Facebook. The rescue writes:

Born right in the middle of all that chaos, these pups have already shown us how strong and resilient they are.
The pups named Thor, Zeus, Titan, Achilles and Athena were all named after "some of the toughest and most legendary figures" because as CARE of DC explains "they’ve already been through so much and came out wagging their tails."
These 5 puppies are expected to be around 20 pounds and grow into small or medium-sized mixed breed dogs.
Now they're ready to find their forever homes. If you'd like to adopt, fill out an application today at CAREOFDC.org.

CARE Of DC Clears Shelter in Recent Dogs Day Out Event

CARE of DC, located at 60 Smith Crossing Road in Wappingers Falls, is a No Kill nonprofit rescue organization and currently has a ton of dogs and cats looking for their forever home.

Every month or so, CARE of DC hosts Dogs Day Out where volunteers can sign up to take an adoptable dog out for the day. CARE explains that getting the dogs out of the shelter gives them "a chance to decompress from the stress of living in the shelter."

Plus they get fresh air, exercise and make new friends.

The July installment was extremely successful as CARE shared that they had a completely empty shelter.

Take a look at some of the adventures the pups went on below:
