Columbia County Firefighters Stop Devastating Fire
On September 11th, 2025, the Copake Country Club shared a letter to their local community detailing a scary moment for owners of the country club, the Urban family.
In the letter, addressed to the "Firefighters of Craryville, Hillsdale and all of Columbia County," the Urban family explains:
In the early hours of July 5th, at around 3:00 AM, our family awoke to a fire that had broken out on our deck and along multiple walls at our home on Copake Lake.
They add "Thankfully and most importantly, everyone got out safe and mostly unharmed."
The Urban family continues writing "What could have quickly turned into a devastating loss was instead safely contained."
Copake Country Club Gives Back to Volunteer Firefighters
Due to the quickness of the Craryville and Hillsdale Fire Departments damage to the Urban family home was kept to a minimum and they will be able to rebuild in the future.
In the letter the Urban family says "There are moments in life that put things into perspective. That night was one of them."
The Urban family was so grateful for the quick action of the volunteer firefighters that they have decided to show their "immense gratitude."
They write:
To show our immense gratitude, and to do something we should have done long ago, we're honored to extend free golf at Copake Country Club to all Columbia County volunteer firefighters, effective immediately. It's a small gesture compared to the service and bravery they show daily, but it's one we hope reflects our appreciation and support.
The letter concludes with the following
We will forever be thankful for the tragedy that was avoided that night as a result of their response.

Celebs Love Hudson Valley Golf Courses
We've gotten used to celebrity sightings across the Hudson Valley. And a handful of those sightings have been at local golf courses in the area.
In 2023 country singer Jason Aldean started his tour at Bethel Woods. Before hitting the stage, he hit the links at Villa Roma and at Roscoe.
This year, Luke Bryan kicked off his tour at Bethel Woods as well. Bryan made a stop at The Monster in Monticello before his performance to hit a few balls.
