Nightmare Fight in Ellenville Sends Police Officer to Hospital
A dispute among six civilians in Ellenville, New York turned into a nightmare for responding police officers.
The Ellenville Police Department has issued a press release explaining what happened when a dispute among six individuals led to officers deploying their tasers and sending two to the hospital including one of the responding officers.
Fight in Ellenville, New York
It all started last Tuesday, January 14th at approximately 10 p.m. when the Ellenville Police Department (EPD) was called to respond to a fight in progress at 28 Warren Street in Ellenville, NY. As officers arrived on the scene they attempted to disperse six individuals who were involved in the dispute and as they tried to de-escalate the situation by asking those involved to leave, things got frantic as the individuals got aggressive towards police.
Person Spits on Police Officer
According to an EPD press release, responding officers Kopec and Freer attempted to get everyone involved to leave the scene, and as they did one of the male subjects spit at the officers and another aggressively approached threatening to punch them in the face. Both officers continued to try and calm everyone down but unfortunately, it didn't work because a few moments later one of the female subjects charged at Officer Kopec and began to attack him.
Police Deploy Taser
Fearing for Officer Kopec's safety, Officer Freer discharged his taser striking the female one time, and proceeded to call for backup. At this point, police said that more people began to approach the officers and that's when they deployed a taser for the second time. Police didn't say if the second taser discharge hit anyone but did say that soon after the New York State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office arrived and were able to assist in getting the situation under control and the crowd to leave.
Two Sent to Hospital
Police said that the female struck by the taser identified as 23-year-old DesRee Allen of Kingston, NY was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and was released soon after. Officer Kopec was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries, he was also released shortly after.
