FDNY K-9 Named After Hudson Valley Firefighter

Congratulations are in order for one of New York's finest.

The FDNY shared a story on their social media outlets about FDNY K-9 Bucca and his handler, Fire Marshal Joseph DiGiacomo. The tag team were awarded the Top Dog in the category of Accelerant Detection during the United States Police Canine Association’s 2019 National Detector Dog Trials. The trials were held last week in Albany.

In the post the FDNY explains that Bucca is a rescue who was found wandering the streets of upstate New York. While they don't give an exact location, they also explain that Bucca's name has a special meaning linked to the Hudson Valley.

Bucca is named after FDNY Fire Marshal Ronald P. Bucca from Tuckahoe who served as a 23-year veteran of the Department. Fire Marshal Bucca is one of the 343 FDNY members to make the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001.

K-9 Bucca's handler Fire Marshal DiGiacomo says "Bucca now holds the title of the number one dog in the nation for accelerant detection, and we are so proud of him.”
