A 21-year-old woman was tragically killed in Ulster County Wednesday and police are hoping someone might have seen something.

Drivers who were on the roads Wednesday evening attempting to drive on Route 9W between the Village of Saugerties, NY and the hamlet of Malden, NY began reporting road closures just after 5 p.m. Many posted on social media wondering if anyone had any idea why the roads were closed. Many assumed it was weather-related but unfortunately, the closure of Route 9W was due to a fatal accident.

Woman Killed in Hit & Run Accident Near Saugerties, New York

The Saugerties Police Department is reporting that they were dispatched to a reported hit-and-run accident on Route 9W between the Village of Saugerties and the hamlet of Malden, New York at approximately 5:09 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Once on the scene police reported that a 21-year-old female was fatally struck by a vehicle while she was walking along the southbound shoulder of Route 9w between the Village of Saugerties and the hamlet of Malden.

The unidentified female was transported by ambulance to Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston where unfortunately she succumbed to her injuries according to Crime Watch. No other information is currently available as this is an active police investigation. Saugerties Police is asking the public for assistance in trying to figure out what happened and are hoping that someone might have witnessed this tragic accident.
