Extremely Rare Albino Woodchuck Spotted in the Hudson Valley
Albino animals are very rare, and one was spotted in Orange County this week.
There are roughly 300 species across the country have albino members. It's believed that for every 10,000 mammals born, 1 will be albino, showing how rare the condition really is.
On July, 8, 2018, Dr. Paramjeet Singh of Orange Regional Medical Group spotted a rare albino woodchuck in Middletown, N.Y.
Personally, I have never come across an albino animal here in the Hudson Valley. Though, lately woodchucks have been terrorizing me ha ha.
Animals with albinism, obviously will be more visible to predators. Also, due to the lack of pigmentation can affect the vision of the animal, making it hard to find food and avoid danger.
Albino animals are also at a disadvantage, as some animals use color to attract mates.
