Happy Earth Day! What better way to celebrate then to learn about new and unique ways that you can help the environment? I've recently come across a cool organization that, not only helps keep our environment clean, but also opens up the opportunity for adventure.

I'm a fan of the show Castle on ABC (I use fan lightly, I'm obsessed) and Stana Katic, who plays Detective Kate Beckett, founded an organization called The Alternative Travel Project. It started in 2010 and is becoming a international movement, recently she posted a video on her twitter feed (which you can find below) and I have been following The Alternative Travel Project ever since.  This organization encourages folks to go car free for one day a week. Obviously, cars are pretty important to our daily well being- getting us to school or work, but taking one day, maybe a Saturday or Sunday, can't hurt.

Think about how much fun you could have, the new people you could meet, what you could learn about your community if you leave your car at home and take your bike out for the day or get on the train? Here in the Hudson Valley we are lucky to have several Alternative Travel options. We have great bike trails that go on for miles, that can take you to knew finds and great scenery. We're located in an area where we are lucky enough to have several train stations near by. Hop on the train one day, grab a window seat. Watching the sunset on the Hudson River is a beautiful, beautiful thing.

I'm taking my bike out today, how will you celebrate?

Check out The Alternative Travel Project and this cool video to go along with it!
