Child Protective Services (CPS) of Dutchess County
CPS of Dutchess County works hard to combat child abuse and child maltreatment. Now, what exactly is the difference?
Child abuse is when a parent or guardian causes serious physical injury, creates a substantial risk of physical injury, or sexually abuses a child.
Child maltreatment consists of parents or guardians harming a child, or placing children in imminent danger by failing to provide said children with food, clothing, shelter, education or medical care when financially able to do so.
When a report is made to CPS, a CPS worker in the county in which the family resides will start an investigation of the allegation. Law requires CPS to work under strict confidentiality rules to ensure the safety of those involved.
National Workforce Development Month
The National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI) celebrates September as National Workforce Development Month. The month of September is designated to recognize child welfare workers, celebrate their achievements, connect them with colleagues, and allow them a recharge for the year ahead.
September is also used as a time of preparation, education, and support. National Workforce Development Month is also important for social work programs and students. September is often a time to refresh child welfare curriculums with the latest resources.
NCWWI offers a number of virtual events and trainings recognizing and educating workers. Much of the events can be found on their website.
