Dog poop just got real expensive in the city of Poughkeepsie. If you own a dog and your pooch does his or hers business outside and you don't pick up after it, you could face a BIG fine!

According to the Daily Freeman, The Poughkeepsie Common Council passed an amendment Monday to the city ordinance pertaining to the removal of canine wastes.

Fines currently capped at $100 for a first offense would increase to a maximum of $250. A second offense could cost up to $500. The fine for repeat offenses after that could be up to $1,000 per occurrence.

This time of year is really bad around the Hudson Valley, with all the snow melted Councilman Tracy Hermann told the Daily Freeman that canine waste is an issue . “This has been a point of conversation in the Eighth Ward because, as the snow melts, we have found that there are little gifts underneath the snow."
