Danbury to Celebrate Class of 2021 With Week Long Festivities

So what do you do when, for the second year in a row, the pandemic curtails your graduation celebration?

You do what Danbury High School has planned to do and that's a week long celebration that starts this Thursday.

According to newstimes.com, the Danbury High School Parent Teacher Organization has planned out a week long celebration for the Class of 2021. The party starts this Thursday, June 3, and continues until next Thursday, June 10.

The Parent Teacher Organization has also asked community members and local businesses to join the celebration and show their support for the seniors by decorating the city with the school's blue and orange colors.

The graduation festivities kick off Thursday with a car parade that will kick off at 12:15 PM from Rogers Park. The parade will head through the city and end at Danbury High School. High school PTO members are hoping city residents who are around, and local businesses will show their support for the graduates when the parade passes down Main Street.

Unlike last year, this year there will be in-person graduation scheduled for June 10. With COVID safety protocol still a priority, there will be two graduation ceremonies held on that day.

The first one takes place with half of the graduating class starting at 2 PM, then the other half of the Class of 2021 will walk at 5 PM. Students will be divided into the groups they have been in during the hybrid model that was established earlier this year.

Since COVID rules have been relaxed for outside gatherings, students will be allowed four guests. If you do the math, that means that some 1,600 friends and family members will be at each graduation and will be required to sit three feet apart, and all guests will also have to wear a mask.

For others who will not be allowed to attend because of the numbers, or they are out of town family members, the school will also be live streaming the event.
