CVS Pharmacy has announced its plans to close 270 stores nationwide, including select New York locations.

The last few years have been anything but good for many of the big-name pharmacy chains across the country, as many of them have struggled to keep stores open.

Pharmacy Chains Closing New York Locations

Last month, Rite Aid announced it was filing for bankruptcy and preparing to close most of its stores across the U.S., including all of its 178 New York locations. Soon after, Walgreens announced that they were also preparing to close approximately 54 stores across 17 states, including 4 of its over 400 New York locations.

The Walgreens store on Fitzgerald Drive, in Middletown, NY, and the store on 5th Avenue in Brooklyn, NY, both closed on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025. The store (Duane Reade) on Lexington Avenue in New York City will close on June 24th, and the store on Genesee Street in Syracuse, NY on June 26th.

CVS Closing 270 Stores Nationwide

It might not come as a surprise, but now it appears that CVS will also be closing stores as it continues its restructuring efforts, according to Newsweek. Back in February, CVS announced it would be closing 270 stores nationwide in 2025 as part of its "enterprise-wide restructuring plan intended to streamline and simplify the organization."

Today, we learned a new report states that they are planning to close hundreds more stores in 2025, to streamline operations and help it adapt to shifting consumer needs.

What CVS Stores are Closing?

CVS has not released a full list of the locations that will be closing yet, but according to a recent report on Newsweek, 34 CVS locations, including stores in Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and more, have either already closed or announced they will be closing in 2025.

CVS Closing Select New York Stores

Five CVS locations in New York have been affected by the company's restructuring plan, including the following stores:

955 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda, NY
153 Central Ave., Albany, NY
1026 Madison Ave., Albany, NY
1241 Lexington Ave., New York, NY
1654 Richmond Ave., Staten Island, NY

A CVS spokesperson told Newsweek that the closures were based on various factors, including "population shifts, consumer buying patterns, store and pharmacy density, pharmacy care access, and community health needs."
