This past Memorial Day weekend, the cold, wet weather put a damper on a lot of outdoor plans, and according to the final enforcement numbers just released by the Connecticut State Police, it was the safest Memorial Day Weekend on the state's roadways in the past three years.

According to the Connecticut State Police, during the 3-day 2021 Memorial Day Weekend, state police responded to 5,636 calls for service. That total number of calls is down over 2,300 from last year's 7,936.

CSP Troopers issued 379 speeding tickets, also way down from 2020's 983. 64 seatbelt violators were ticketed this year, compared to 39 in 2020. Troopers arrested 30 people for DUI and responded to 377 accidents, 56 with reported injuries, and 1 fatal accident. No fatal accidents were reported during the 2020 Memorial Day Weekend.

The fatal accident occurred in Tolland and the CT State Police Troop C are asking for your help if you have any info regarding the 1 vehicle crash that happened at around 5 AM yesterday morning, Monday, May 31, 2021, on Rt. 74. Ryan Bard of Tolland was driving a 2019 Subaru Wrx Sti, when he lost control traveling Westbound on Rt. 74, Bard sustained fatal injuries when his vehicle crashed into a tree on the side of the road.
