Morgan wrote his new song about his 19-year-old son Jerry Greer's 2016 death in a boating accident. The song's release in August broke Morgan's career silence since Greer's passing.
Just like the song itself, Morgan's "The Father, My Son and the Holy Ghost" video was designed to help families dealing with similar tragedies. “Its simplicity embraces the truth of the lyrics of the song,” Morgan tells CMT about the video. “I hope this video lifts people up. For anyone who has experienced loss, I want this song to give them the desire to pursue their faith and to have hope.”
The new music video's footage was shot at the family's The Gallery at Morgan Farms in Dickson, Tenn., and shows a stained glass window installed in memory of Greer. “A lot of video shoots seem to go on forever but I was honestly surprised by how quickly it went. It felt like we were done before we got started,” Morgan says. “I thought they did an amazing job portraying the message and vision of the song.”
Upon the song's initial release, Blake Shelton successfully campaigned to take it to the top of the iTunes all-genre chart. Shelton tweeted at, among others, Today host Hoda Kotb, but it was actress, comedian and daytime TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres who gave the star's grassroots campaign an extra push.
