CJ: My Kids Have to Watch TV With Captions ON & it Drives Me Nuts
Does anyone in your life do this?
If you think about sitting down in front of the TV to watch something, I think most of us have a TV watching routine, right? Maybe you have a favorite place to sit on the couch or you have "your" chair, I know that when I'm watching something, I park my large butt in my recliner, dog on my lap, I have the remote on the left arm rest and I always have something to drink within arms reach and away we go!
That routine is a little different when my kids are with me because I've noticed over the last few months that anytime we sit to watch something they always turn the subtitles on. ON! I'm one of those people that can't watch something and have to read along while I'm trying to watch. If closed captions are on at anytime I ALWYS TURN THEM OFF! My kids can't watch anything without having them on and I don't get it.
Don't you think that its weird for kids with perfectly good hearing to have to watch TV that way? Or is it just me? Do you, or your kids watch TV this way? Am I missing something here? I feel like if I'm reading while watching I'm really not into whatever it is that were watching because I'm staring at the bottom of the screen trying to follow the words.
