It was a growing holiday tradition for many families from all over the Hudson Valley for years. It was so big and well done that it was featured on national TV, but will they be "lighting up" in 2023?

This time of year all across the Hudson Valley many houses begin to "plug in and light up" for the holidays. No matter what town you live in, we all have at least a neighbor or two that goes all in when it comes to putting up holiday decorations, and honesty one of my favorite things to do at least once or twice this time of year is to hop in the car with the family and drive all over the Hudson Valley and look at some of the great displays.

Sussin Family Christmas Lightshow

If the name Sussin sounds familiar you might remember them after they were featured on the "Christmas Light Fight" TV show in 2017, a national TV show that had families battle for the best light display for that week. Unfortunately, they didn't win on the show but they did win the support of thousands in the Hudson Valley as their display was one of the most visited in the Hudson Valley.

For 7+ years the display was set up by a father and son team Zach and Troy Sussin outside of their home at 123 Patch Rd in Saugerties, New York, and year after year the displays got bigger and bigger. Each year the Sussin family offered their display for FREE but did collect donations for various local Hudson Valley charities and used those donations to provide toys and more to less fortunate families all over the Hudson Valley.

Light Show Canceled

In 2020 the Sussin family along with almost the entire world had to cancel (they did set up a small drive-by display) but said they would hopefully be back the following year. Unfortunately, they didn't do a display in 2021 or 2022 but did say that they might be back in 2023 posting on Facebook "who knows what the future holds." Many of us waited with our fingers crossed that they would make a comeback in 2023 but it appears it's not happening.

Saugerties Patch Road Light Display 2023

According to a post on Facebook, the Sussin's had plans to make a go in 2023 but after hurting himself Zach isn't able to handle the display this year saying,

"Hey everyone, Zach here. Some of you may have guessed it with no recent updates on the page, but there will be no display again in 2023. I planned to put up a small display this year and even took a vacation from work to do that. However, shortly before Halloween, I ended up with a back injury that still hasn’t healed fully. Because of the injury I haven’t been able to move around super easily and setting up the display requires a lot of that. I’m hoping if I heal up shortly that I can throw at least some lights up as I hate seeing it completely dark. We want to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe Holiday season."

Get well soon Zach and thank you for the many years of dedication to provide a great display for all to enjoy.
