Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and that means the holidays are almost upon us. Hopefully you have your turkey ready and your wish list written, because the way things are going Christmas will be here before you know it. Not only will you need to have the fixings ready, but you'll need to have the house properly decorated.

Tradition in my family is to get out of the house the day after Thanksgiving hang the lights and yes, blow up those ridiculous lawn ornaments. One of my biggest issues is coming across dead light bulbs. It seems as though every year I'm throwing away piles of lights and then heading out and purchasing more. If you're having the same issue as I am, then you're in luck.

This year the Department of Environmental Conservation is encouraging decorators to bring their broken or unused Christmas lights to Home Depot from now until December 14th. If you bring your lights to Home Depot you can expect a coupon in return. The DEC also suggests giving your lights to a local scrap metal facility in exchange for a few cents.

Are you decorating your house this holiday season? Lets see those lights! Head on over to our comment section on Facebook.
