Driver’s Car Ends Up in the Hudson River

A driver accidentally drove their car into the Hudson River, prompting a massive response from area police and fire departments.

A scary moment unfolded over the weekend in Peekskill, NY, when first responders from various departments responded to a report of a car in the Hudson River.

Car Drives Into Hudson River

According to the Westchester County Police Department (WCPD), it happened on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, when police were called to an area near the Peekskill Yacht Club at 1 Travis Point, Peekskill, NY, for a report of a car in the Hudson River. At the time, initial reports stated that the driver was still inside the vehicle when it became submerged in the river.

Thankfully, when responders arrived at the scene, they were able to confirm that the driver was able to get out of the vehicle safely before it was completely submerged in the river.

First Responders Jump Into Action in Westchester County, NY

Police didn't identify the driver or say how the vehicle ended up in the river, but did thank all of the first responders who responded, including WCPD Marine and Aviation Unit, Peekskill Police Department and Fire Department, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Marine Unit, New York State Environmental Conservation Police, New York State Police, Peekskill EMS, and Cortlandt Regional Paramedics.

They gave an extra pat on the back to members of the Yorktown Heights Fire Department's Dive Team, as they were responsible for getting into the river and working underneath the vehicle to prepare it to be hauled back onto land by a tow truck.
