If you've ever driven down Federal Road (Route 202), in Brookfield around the Shop Rite / Chick Fil-A area, then you know what a nightmare it can be. According to CT Post, the 8.5 million dollar road project has been in the planning and development stage for the last six years, and construction was suppose to begin this past summer but was pushed back to November. Now the state says they are ready to take on the challenge.

The project is set to include sidewalks, bus shelters, left turn lanes and new traffic lights, and Brookfield Town Officials hope it will cut down on car accidents and alleviate some of the congestion that occurs in that area daily.

The first phase of the construction will include the area between BJ's Wholesale Club and the intersection at Old New Milford Road where traffic seems to be the worst.

A 2015 local government study reports that some 30,000 cars drive in that particular corridor of Brookfield daily, and that there have been 442 car accidents in that area in just a two-year span.

Couple all this with the anticipation of a new Amazon Fresh grocery store opening soon in the Candlewood Plaza Shopping Center, and you add in extra challenges and more traffic to an already jam packed area.

Brookfield residents, and people who travel the road daily, have been waiting for these improvements for some time. Now all you have to do is grin and bear it because when the smoke, or should we say construction clears, things should get a whole lot better for drivers.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is expecting the work to continue until November of 2023, just in time for the next holiday rush on that road.
