The discovery happened Tuesday morning.

Earlier this week the New York State Police announced that a body was discovered by employees of the New York State Department of Transportation in upstate New York. According to the New York State Police, the discovery happened Tuesday morning December 3rd on the side of Interstate 90 (I-90) just east of the nearby Patroon Island Bridge in Rensselaer, New York.

Body Found Near Upstate New York Bridge

Police said that at approximately 8:24 a.m., Tuesday, Troopers were called to respond to a report of a deceased person that was discovered alongside the eastbound side of I-90 near the Patroon Island Bridge. The body was found by a work crew from the New York State Department of Transportation who were working in the area. Upon arrival on the scene Troopers quickly shut down the right lane of I-90 to begin its investigation.

The roadway remained closed for approximately one and half hours as police conducted its investigation which has had some developing information.

Police Investigate

At the time of the discovery, police didn't reveal any details regarding how the body got to where it was found or who it might be but they did say that "There is no perceived public threat at this time." The next day, Wednesday, the New York State Police announced that after its investigation they have determined that the body has been identified as 58-year-old Lawrence Viscio, of Albany, New York.

Police didn't share the cause of Viscio’s death yet as it has yet to be determined, pending an autopsy, nor did they say how he ended up near the bridge. This is an ongoing active investigation and when more information becomes available we will update this article.
