The Hudson Valley Rail Trail saw lots of expansion along Route 299 in Highland during 2018. The expansion continues up Route 299 towards New Paltz as 2019 begins. At the moment it seems that earth movers have taken a winter furlough but that doesn't mean their isn't activity on the trail. Come celebrate January in the Hudson Valley on the Hudson Valley Rail Trail during the 21st Annual Winter Fest on January 12th from 11 am to 2 pm.

 

This outdoor festival will have seasonal favorites like roasted chestnuts, toasted marshmallows, light snacks and beverages. The Winter Fest Features a Chili contest so if you are a local restaurant who would like  to feature your chili at the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Winter Fest contact them today. There is still time to be in the running to be voted the first "Best Chili" of 2019 by being crowded "Best of Fest". Your and the kids can also enjoy wagon rides, wood carving and other activities geared to all ages.

Chili taste and food tickets will be sold at the event which will be at 101 New Paltz Road in Highland at the Hudson Valley Rail Trail Depot. You can call 845-691-6313 for more information. The Hudson Valley Rail Trail is a not for profit organization who is focused on maintaining and improving the portion of rail trail that travels through Highland. Throughout New York there are various portions of the old rail road system that have been converted into "green" transportation paths for walkers, bicycles and non motorized transportation. Most notably is the Walkway Over the Hudson which connects to the Highland trail.
