That's when you'll be able to catch the Full Sturgeon Moon. According to The Old Farmers Almanac, the full moon will reach peak illumination at 3:55 A.M. ET.
How and why did August get the name Full Sturgeon Moon? The Old Farmers Almanac explains "The name Sturgeon Moon comes from the giant lake sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain." They continue:
this native freshwater fish was readily caught during this part of summer and an important food staple for Native Americans who lived in the region. At one time, the lake sturgeon was quite abundant in late summer, though they are rarer today.
There are a few other names for August's full moon including Flying Up Moon which describes a time "when young birds are finally ready to take the leap and learn to fly."
Another alternative name? Black Cherries Moon, which according to The Old Farmers Almanac is "referring to when chokecherries become ripe."

The Old Farmer Almanac Predicts Chilly Fall For NY
Recently The Old Farmers Almanac released their predictions for the 2025 fall season.
Here in the Hudson Valley over the last few years, we've had warmer than normal temperatures. However, this year it looks like that will change.
According to The Old Farmers Almanac expect cooler and dryer weather for 2025. They write "September brings an average temperature of 59°F (2° below normal) with 3.5” of precipitation—wet in the north, drier in the south."
They add that October will also be chillier with an average of 46°F, which is 3° below normal." With that being said, there will be periods of more rain and "brief warm spells."
