Remember the East Coast Earthquake of 2024?

On April 5th, 2024 a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked the east coast.

The epicenter was near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey and according to the U.S. Geological Survey the earthquake was a "result of oblique reverse and strike-slip faulting at shallow depths in the crust."

The rumble was felt from New Jersey all the way up to parts of Massachusetts. Many in the Hudson Valley felt the earthquake too. The USGS writes:

While this earthquake is relatively small globally, earthquakes of this magnitude are commonly widely felt in the eastern United States because of efficient seismic wave propagation in the region.

On the USGS website they add "Earthquakes in the eastern US are infrequent but not unexpected" and the biggest earthquake to date is the quake that happened on April 5th, 2024.

In the days following April 5th, 2024, smaller aftershocks were felt throughout the region. Now it looks like another earthquake rocked New Jersey and officials are looking to hear from the public.
