The weather doesn't quite reflect it, but spring is right around the corner. Soon we will all be outside again enjoying the nature based activities that we have access to in the Hudson Valley.

One of the best places locally to enjoy a variety of outdoor events for the whole family is the Mohonk Preserve. They have a full calendar of events that spans the entire year. One of their most popular is Rock the Ridge.

Rock the Ridge is a 50-mile Endurance Challenge that takes place this year on Saturday May 6th. This annual event offers participant the opportunity to traverse a 50 mile course set inside the spectacular Mohonk Preserve. The 24-hour time limit opens the event to everyone from Ultra-marathoners to avid hikers. Obviously this challenge require some preparation so this weekend hopeful participants will have an opportunity to prepare on the course with the "A Taste of Rock the Ridge."

This weekend Mohonk Preserve is offering a "sample" for people interested in being part of Rock the Ridge. On Saturday you can take part in A Taste of Rock the Ridge. from 10 am to 1pm. The group will meet at Spring Farm Trailhead and get an energetic introduction to this year's Rock the Ridge.

There is no fee for this event but you do need you to preregister. The "Taste" has been broken up for hiking and running groups. They have set this up in order to give everyone helpful tips on how to accomplish the Rock the Ridge challenge.
