Annual New Paltz Events for the First Weekend in May
Now that May is right around the corner there are lots of things going on around the Hudson Valley. Next weekend you can do a wide variety of thing and a lot of them help out organizations that are important to our community. In New Paltz next weekend there are 3 annual events that bring out participants and spectators.
On Saturday you can support the Elting library and get some fresh air with your dog by signing up for Walkin' the Dog. This annual 1.25 mile walk starts at the Gilded Otter and makes an easy loop through Historic Huguenot Street and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Fun for the whole family and the family Pet. Also on Saturday for the more ambitious and physically fit you can Rock the Ridge. This 50 mile endurance challenge and environmental fundraiser is set in the beautiful Mohonk Preserve. The goal is to traverse a 50 mile course in 24 hours by walking, running or both through a natural setting down old carriage roads, forests and ridge lines in the preserve.
And on Sunday it is the New Paltz Regatta. This year they are celebrating the 60th anniversary of this crazy fun event. This annual New Paltz tradition was started by the Delta Kappa Fraternity of SUNY New Paltz in 1955 it is part parade, part boat race and fun for the whole family.
