A national auto parts retailer with 200+ locations in New York has announced plans to close more than 700 locations as they attempt to "improve business performance."

This year alone we have witnessed numerous businesses make the decision to scale back operations and close stores across the country. Just about every "type" of business has been affected from restaurants like Denny's and TGI Fridays to big-name retail stores like Big Lots, it seems like no business is safe. Now, that includes auto parts as one of the biggest names in auto parts has announced a new three-pillar plan that includes closing numerous locations.

New Plan for Advance Auto Parts

Advance Auto Parts, which has more than 4,700 stores across the country and 200+ in New York announced as part of its third-quarter update to investors that they have a new plan. Company president and chief executive officer Shane O’Kelly said,

“We are charting a clear path forward and introducing a new three-year financial plan, with a focus on executing core retail fundamentals to improve the productivity of all our assets and to create shareholder value."

Advance Auto Parts Closing 700+ Stores

According to a press release the company said it has identified opportunities that it believes can improve its "operating income margin" over the next few years. The plans would include closing 727 Advance Auto Parts stores across the country including 523 Advance Auto Parts corporate stores, 204 independent locations, and four of its distribution centers. The company didn't specify which locations would be closing at this time but currently, they have 222 stores across New York including 18 stores in the Hudson Valley.

Advance Auto Parts in the Hudson Valley

Currently, there are Advance Auto Parts stores in Carmel, Chester, Hyde Park, Kingston, Liberty, Middletown, Monroe, Montgomery, Monticello, New Paltz, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Red Hook, Salt Point, Saugerties, and Wappingers Falls, New York. At this time it's unclear which stores will be closing as the company didn't specify the locations yet. When they release the list of stores we will update this article.

Advance Auto Parts also said its new plan is expected to "improve labor productivity, enhance the availability of parts, and bring parts to market faster." They also announced plans to open 60 market hub locations by mid-2027 which should also improve the company's financial status.
