A Pearl is More Than Just A Grain of Sand
If you are born in June then you may already know a lot about pearls. Pearl happens to be the birthstone for June. For those of us not familiar with the pearl I thought it would be fun to learn a little more about these beautiful beads. Most of us know that a pearl forms in an oyster with a grain of sand but that is not the whole story.
The history of the pearl is very regal. At one time in Europe, according to American Pearl, only nobility could wear pearls. The first pearls were most likely discovered by folks harvesting shellfish for food. Now a days most pearls are cultivated and farmed and are referred to as Cultured Pearls.
