We have been hearing about the Delta variant of COVID-19 quite a bit lately. The variant seems to be spread more easily and possibly even cause greater illness in people. The Delta variant, which emerged in India in 2020, has been spreading like wildfire all over the world. It is also spreading quickly in the United States. According to CNBC, the Centers for Disease Control announced that the variant is now responsible for 83 percent of the COVID-19 cases here.

The variant is much more transmissible than other variants. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the White House’s Chief Medical Advisor, recently said during a hearing,

“The reason it’s so formidable is the fact that it has the capability of transmitting efficiently from human to human in an extraordinary manner, well beyond any of the other variants that we’ve experienced, up to now.”

The COVID-19 infection rate in Western New York is on the rise. It's pretty scary knowing that the Delta variant is out here causing havoc, especially since we just barely reopened outside. I really doubt that we would even be able to get people to go back into quarantine if we needed to at this point. After spending more than a year in the house, even with news about the Delta variant, I haven't seen many people wearing masks. If we did have to lockdown again, I think there would be much more pushback from people than when we initially did. I'm also hoping that the Canada-U.S. border crossing reopening is not delayed again due to the Delta variant.
