39-Year-Old Man Murdered in Ellenville, Found Lying in Street
A police investigation is underway.
According to a press release from the Ellenville Police Department in Ulster County, a 39-year-old man was found dead earlier this week lying on Berme Road Park, after allegedly being shot multiple times.
Late Tuesday night around 11 p.m. Ellenville police were contacted after a reported hit and run accident that took place around 11 p.m. Tuesday night. The initial report stated that a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle and lying in the road. When police arrived on the scene they discovered a male victim lying unresponsive, bleeding and unconscious on the roadway.
As police began their investigation they determined that the victim, who has been identified as 39-year-old Gerald Keith Richardson of Ellenville, was not struck by a vehicle, but was shot multiple times.
First responders from the Ellenville Rescue Squad arrived on the scene to treat the victim, but unfortunately, Richardson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Richardson was then transported to the Kingston City Hospital, where medical examiners performed a standard autopsy. The autopsy releveled that Richardson's death was officially ruled a homicide.
Ellenville police, the Ulster County Sheriffs Office, New York State Police and the Ulster County District Attorneys Office have all begun an intensive investigation to try and determine exactly what happened. Police did say that they are following up on numerous leads in the case. As information becomes available, we will update this article with any new information.
