Two dangerous Hudson Valley sex offenders are back behind bars following a local police operation.

During the morning hours on Friday, the Village of Liberty Police conducted a sex offender compliance check in accordance with the Sex Offender Registration Act.

The compliance check was done in a joint effort with the New York State Division of Corrections and Community Supervision. Police checked on 11 registered sex offenders living in the Hudson Valley, which resulted in two arrests.

Kenneth Fancher, 57, and 54-year-old Jose Ortega were both charged with violating conditions of their parole. According to the New York State Sex Offenders Database, both live at the same motel on Mills Street in Liberty.

Ortega is a Level-3 sex offender, which comes with highest risk of a repeat and offense and is considered the greatest risk to the public. In 2004, Ortega was sentenced to 10 years in prison for two or more acts of course sexual conduct with a seven-year-old girl.

Fancher, a Level-2 sex offender, was convicted in 2009 for sexually abusing a six-year-old girl. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

Both were committed to the Sullivan County Jail awaiting a hearing by New York State Parole.
