2 Arrested at Walmart After Report of Stolen Car
A car found in the woods near Resorts World Catskills led to two arrests at Walmart.
On Tuesday around 1 a.m., the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car in the woods on the outbound Resorts World access road in the Town of Thompson.
At the scene, deputies found an empty 2006 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck. No one was present with the vehicle.
While investigating, a call came in about a vehicle stolen from the parking lot at Walmart in Monticello.
Police interviewed 40-year-old Robin J. Redner of Loch Sheldrake at the scene. He allegedly told police when he came out of Walmart his car was missing.
A further investigation revealed Redner was at Resorts World Catskills earlier that evening. Video surveillance showed him being dropped off at Walmart by 41-year-old Barbara Cavanagh of Loch Sheldrake, but he never entered the store before calling 911 about a stolen car, police say.
Redner was charged with falsely reporting an incident, obstructing governmental administration and driving while intoxicated, misdemeanors, and violations for leaving the scene of an accident and refusing to take a breath test.
Cavanagh was charged with misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration.
