1 Dead, 1 Injured After New York Train Crashes Into Jeep in Hudson Valley
A Hudson Valley man is dead and the female driver is injured.
On Wednesday around 4 p.m., the Kingston Police Department responded to a report of a car struck by a train at the Smith Ave crossing.

The initial investigation showed that a 1996 Jeep Cherokee operated by a 29-year-old Saugerties woman was traveling on Smith Ave in a south-easterly direction.
Members of the Kingston Fire Department arrived and found the vehicle on the Grand Street side of the tracks.
"It is apparent that the railroad crossing gates were completely down for an approaching northbound CSX on the mainline when the Jeep went around the gates and was struck on the passenger side by the lead engine," the Kingston Police Department stated.
The driver and passenger were entrapped and Jaws of Life equipment was used by Kingston Fire Department to free the occupants.
Firefighters say both were removed from the Jeep within 7 minutes.

The female driver was treated at the scene for relatively minor injuries and transported to St Francis Hospital, police say.
The passenger, a 39-year-old Ulster County man was transported to Kingston Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, police say. His name was not released.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
