You Can’t Donate Clothes But Food and Money is Needed
Many of us are looking to help people on our community this winter. By now you have heard that since the COVID-19 pandemic many of our local community organizations that help people are really stretched for services and supplies. That is one of the reason why it may seem odd that you can't make certain types of donations right now.
I have been trying to donate winter clothes at the Salvation Army in New Paltz since before Christmas but every time I drive by there donation center is closed. There is a sign asking that you not drop off items until further notice.
Another group that has also had to put a hold on accepting clothing and household donations is Family of New Paltz. They posted on the Facebook page last night (January 11,2021) that the haven't been able to open their clothing store since the shutdown last March. They hope this will change soon but they can't say exactly when at the moment.
What is important to remember is that even though Family of New Paltz can't accept clothing and household donations they do still need food, personal care items and monetary donations more than ever. Like many groups in the Hudson Valley who help supply people in need Family of New Paltz is seeing an increase in the number of people who are using their service.
Family of New Paltz also wants people to know that they are here to help. They have a hotline that is available 24/7 that you can call or text 845 679 2485. Many people are struggling and they want to help. If you are depressed, hungry, homeless or struggling with substance abuse they want to help so please reach out.
