Dutchess County will be hosting a parade for Veterans celebrating a special anniversary.

In a press release Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro announced the Year of the Veteran Parade on September 30th, 2018. The parade will kick off at Market and Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie at 1pm and will end at Waraya's Park.

Following the parade there will be a special event honoring Gold Star Families .

County Executive Molinaro explains "Since Dutchess County was founded centuries ago, valiant men and women have selflessly taken up arms to protect our nation, and our ‘Year of the Veteran’ Parade will offer County residents the opportunity to recognize their neighbors’ sacrifices."

The Year of the Veteran Parade will be commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I. According to the press release in 1919, before he became the 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the Assistant Secretary of the Navy and led the parade down Main Street welcoming home soldiers to Dutchess County.
