After watching so much devastation in the wake of Hurricane Harvey and now waiting to see the damage left behind by Hurricane Irma, I wondered what I would do in an emergency.

What would you do in the case of a disaster? Would you know the best place to go, who to contact in your community, or where to get reliable information? Educate yourself and help out your family, friends, and your community with a New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps training.

The Citizen Preparedness Corps gives you the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions. The New York National Guard, working with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Office of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control, lead the trainings.

The next training session in the Hudson Valley will be on Tuesday, September 19  from 7 pm-9 pm at 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie and will be coordinated with the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response. You'll learn about responding to a natural or man-made disaster, how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies.

Help keep your family, and your community, safe in the event of a disaster.
