I thought it was only supposed to rain this weekend. That's all, just rain, no forecast of snow, let alone the talk of Bombogenesis, but a lot can change in 24 hours. So here we are with Winter Storm Riley.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Orange County from 6 am Friday morning through 6 am Saturday. Heavy snow is a possibility with accumulation amounts from 4 to 8 inches possible. In addition, the wind will also be a concern with gusts up to 50 MPH, sustained winds of 25 to 30 mph. Traveling will be difficult especially during the evening commute. These areas could also see scattered power outages.
For those in Sullivan and Ulster Counties, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from midnight tonight until 3 am on Saturday. For these counties, you could see snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches, with some localized heavier accumulations of up to 24 inches. According to the National Weather Service travel in these areas will be very difficult and at times impossible with both morning and evening commutes exp[ected to be impacted. The snow will be heavy, which could bring down tree limbs causing power outages as well.
Reduced visibility and difficulty traveling will be an issue throughout the Hudson Valley tomorrow, so think before you go out. If you don't need to be anywhere, please stay off the roads and be safe.
