Will The Strawberry Moon Rise Tonight Over the Hudson Valley?

Let's just hope the weather holds up so we can catch a glimpse of this.

While we're all done with Super Moons for 2020 (we'll have to wait until March 28, 2021 for the next one), there's a special moon making an appearance tonight. Accuweather is reporting that the Strawberry Moon will rise tonight.

In some parts of the world, the Strawberry Moon will look dimmer because "the moon will pass through part of the Earth’s shadow to create a lunar eclipse." Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you want to look at it) we will not experience the lunar eclipse, but our friends in Australia, Asia, Europe and Africa will.

At 3:12pm the Strawberry Moon will be 100% full, but when the sun is setting it will look just as full. Weather.com reports that the sun will be setting in the Hudson Valley around 8:27pm, so that may be the best time for you to check it out.

The Old Farmers Almanac explains that the name Strawberry Moon comes from the "Algonquin tribes in eastern North America who knew it as a signal to gather the ripening fruit of wild strawberries.”

Taking a look at the forecast tonight, HudsonValleyWeather.com says that we'll have mostly cloudy skies tonight with a chance of a possible thunderstorm.

Maybe the moon gods will work in our favor tonight and push the clouds from our view so we can take a peek at the Strawberry moon across the Hudson Valley sky.
