Walgreens Closing a Hudson Valley Location in March

A Hudson Valley Walgreens location has informed customers that they will close for the final time in March 2025.

Back in January, we learned that one of the most popular names in pharmacies would be closing another 21 locations by the end of February 2025. Walgreens, with 450+ locations across New York State announced that it would be joining some of its competition and restructuring its business plans for 2025, announcing its plans to close 1,200 stores in the next three years, including 500 in 2025.

Hudson Valley Walgreens Closing Soon?

When Walgreens announced its restructuring plans it didn't state if any New York stores would be closing or not, but now it appears we have learned that at least one Hudson Valley location will be closing soon and more could be on the way.

Walgreens Closing in Ellenville, New York

The Walgreens located at 50 North Main Street in Ellenville, NY has begun to inform its customers that the store will be closing soon. According to an employee at the store, they will close for the final time on Wednesday, March 19th. As first reported by the Shawangunk Journal, the store closure came as a surprise to many in the area as the North Main Street location has been a pharmacy for many years.

It was a Rite Aid for many years and in the mid-2010s, it switched to a Walgreens. The employee we spoke to told us that when the store closes for the final time on March 19th, it will most likely close early in the afternoon.

Will More Hudson Valley Locations Close?

Currently, Walgreens has numerous locations across the Hudson Valley with stores in LaGrange, Wappingers Falls, Pine Bush, Kingston, Vails Gate, New Paltz, and more. We did reach out to locations in Highland and Poughkeepsie, NY by phone and both stores told us they weren't aware of any plans for their locations to be closing anytime soon.

Bad Times for Pharmacies

CVS and Rite Aid also announced that they would be closing a record number of locations in the future with CVS Health Corp planning to close 900 stores over the next three years. Rite Aid has already closed approximately 800 stores since 2024 and more could be coming soon.
