It was the winter of 2010 and excitement buzzed all around Binghamton as a film crew rolled into town and rumors began to swirl that perhaps a music video was being filmed in Broome County and for a major name artist.

Broome County residents didn't have to wait long for the answers they were looking for. A music video was, in fact, being filmed in Broome County for none other than megastar Taylor Swift and for her song, "Back to December."

While Swift herself wasn't in town for any part of the filming, residents waited in anticipation for the music video to be released so that they could look for local landmarks and perhaps catch a glimpse of someone they knew in the background.

When the video was released, we spotted outdoor footage of MacArthur Park, a field on Underwood and Castleman in Vestal, Juneberry bridge, a house on the corner of Juneberry by the bridge, a field by the park on Juneberry next to the creek, and the of course, the castle house that sits on Route 26 in Vestal near Foster and Main.

Now, a piece of that music video is being torn and a new business is moving in. The castle house featured in "Back to December" is located on Route 26 in Vestal and a local couple says they will be tearing the house down.

Funky Beez plans to open a hotdog and ice cream shop at the property by late spring. However, the castle house has got to come down. According to Funky Beez, there is simply no way to save the structure. Structural engineers and inspectors both agree that the foundation is unsafe, the beams are rotting, and the building is beyond repair.

Many have driven by the Vestal castle house and have wished for a peek inside. Luckily for us, the owners of Funky Beez have a TikTok channel and uploaded a video offering a glimpse inside. Sadly, for us, the video shows the unique structure in ruins and literally just patched together by previous owners.

Revisiting Taylor Swift's 'Fearless' Era:

Released when she was 18 years old, Fearless was Swift's sophomore album. The best-selling album of 2009, it spent 11 weeks at the top of the all-genre Billboard 200, has been certified Diamond by the RIAA and is one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.

Fearless was a hit at awards shows, too: In 2009, it was named CMA and ACM Album of the Year, as well as Favorite Country Album at the American Music Awards. At the 2010 Grammy Awards, Swift won Best Country Album and the all-genre Album of the Year honor for the record.
