
Tragic Ending After Kayaker Goes Missing in Upstate New York
A kayaking accident has ended tragically after a 21-year-old man from Yonkers was found deceased in a river in Upstate New York.
Kayaker Goes Missing in Upstate New York
According to New York State Police, it all began at approximately 8:04 p.m. on Sunday, May 10th, 2026, when troopers were called to the area of Library Avenue in Warrensburg, New York, after receiving reports that a kayak had overturned in the Schroon River in Warren County and a person was missing.
After arriving on scene, investigators determined that the kayak had been occupied by a 21-year-old man from Yonkers before it overturned in the water.
First responders quickly launched a large-scale search effort as members of the Warren County Marine Rescue Team and the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team searched the river for hours, continuing into the early morning hours on Monday.
Despite the extensive search effort, the kayaker was not initially located.
Search Continues
The search resumed on Monday as police warned residents that there would be a significant police and emergency response presence in the Warrensburg area throughout the day while crews continued searching the river.

Sadly, State Police later confirmed that the missing kayaker was found deceased.
Missing Person Located
According to an update released by police at approximately 7 p.m. Monday evening, the 21-year-old man was located in the water at around 5:55 p.m.
At this time, investigators have not released the victim’s name publicly and have not said what may have caused the kayak to overturn. Officials also have not indicated if weather conditions, water currents, or other factors may have played a role in the tragedy.
