A 17-year-old boy has died after the snowmobile he was driving crashed into a log pile in Upstate New York.

A normal snowmobile ride with friends turned tragic last weekend and claimed the life of a young boy after he was thrown from a snowmobile after it collided with a log pile in the Town of Warsaw in Wyoming County, NY.

Tragic Snowmobile Accident in Upstate New York

According to the New York State Police, it happened on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at approximately 12:12 p.m., when local troopers were called to respond to a snowmobile accident on a private trail off of Wilder Road in the town of Warsaw, NY.

Police said that upon arrival, they began an investigation, which determined that 17-year-old Steven J. Gregorie, of Varysburg, NY, was operating a 2012 Ski Doo snowmobile traveling south on a marked trail in Warasw, when he lost control, struck a log pile, and was ejected from the snowmobile.

A 16-year-old friend, who was not identified, was operating a 2015 Arctic Cat traveling behind Gregorie when he also lost control and left the marked trail, striking the same log pile. The teen was also ejected from his snowmobile, which then came to a rest on top of Gregorie.

New York Teenager Killed in Snowmobile Accident

Other snowmobile operators who were not involved in the tragic accident contacted 911 and assisted at the scene. Gregorie was transported by ambulance to the Wyoming County Community Hospital and was sadly pronounced deceased. The 16-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Police said there were no signs of foul play and that an autopsy is scheduled by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
