100,000 Diapers to Be Distributed Across Dutchess & Orange Thanks to United Way
The Hudson Valley's generosity at a recent diaper drive will in turn go to help others in need in both Dutchess and Orange Counties. Nonprofit organization representatives, schools, as well as faith-based organizations will be the recipients of the 100,000 diapers recently collected in our area, and will then distribute those diapers to those in need in the community.
Dutchess-Orange United Way Gives Back
The United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region does so much work for residents here in the Hudson Valley, 'fighting for the health, education, and financial stability of every person in our community.' In 2019/2020 alone, their efforts yielded contributions that directly provided services to 240,376 Dutchess and Orange County residents.
Well they've gone and done it again, recently hosting a 'diaper drive' with a target goal of 100,000 diapers collected, achieving that goal thanks to the generosity of more than 250 donors, and now it's time for distribution.
In a recent press release, the United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region shared that 1 in 3 families struggle to provide diapers for their babies. Back in May, an article published on LeafScore shared that if you have a newborn baby, when it comes to diaper costs, 'a good range to estimate for a monthly disposable diaper budget is between $150-275 per month.'
With inflation impacting just about everyone, and everything lately, the United Way's work is coming at a crucial time for parents. On Wednesday August 10th, those 100,000 diapers collected will be distributed to representatives of nonprofits, schools, and faith-based organizations that serve Dutchess and Orange Counties. Each organization will receive up to 20 boxes of diapers 'to provide to the struggling families they serve.'
Jeannie Montano, President and CEO of United Way of the Dutchess-Orange region shared the following:
This past year, the number one request we have received through our Gift-in-Kind program is diapers. Households experiencing diaper need are an average of 19 diapers short a month.
United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region's Other Recent Work
There's another drive underway right now thanks to the efforts of the United Way, and it focuses on back-to-school supplies, which can be quite costly for families. There are specific items that would be most helpful for this particular drive, you can link to the full list here, and while you're there find out about donation locations across the Hudson Valley, and volunteer opportunities as well.
