Complete Road Closure Begins Monday in Olive, New York
For many Hudson Valley residents, this has been the year of the road closure. It seems lately no matter what time of year it is there is a road or two that has been closed or at least reduced to one-lane traffic.
Right now I am confident in your travels you have a road that has either just recently been repaired or maybe is about to be repaired before the winter snow flies. Bridge repairs seem to be the biggest reason for detours lately and they don't have to even be big bridges.
Massive Detours this Summer Aren't Over Yet Hudson Valley
I happen to travel on Route 299 between New Paltz and Highland. Over the last two months that road has been torn up in order to repair a part of the road that was reportedly collapsing. That road work isn't a complete detour it is a one-lane alternator.

If you take the Goat Trail also known as Route 202 that goes between the Bear Mountain Bridge and Peekskill you have been detoured pretty much all of 2024. And then there are the people who live on Brookside Road who in January watch the bridge come down which crossed over the Thruway. There is no word about when and if that bridge will ever be rebuilt.

So the latest detour which may or may not affect anyone begins Monday, September 23, 2024, in the Town of Olive, New York. The Ulster County Government posted the notice on Facebook today that South Hallow Road in Olive New York will be closed starting Monday, September 23.
Pedestrians will have access but people driving a vehicle will not. The closure notice doesn't say how long the repairs could take but you can keep up to date with them or we will update this article with more news when it is released.
