New Bus Routes Bring Convenient Options to Ulster County
Officials in Ulster County have announced the addition of new bus routes to assist residents across the county.
Most counties across the Hudson Valley offer residents a form of public transportation, offering riders a cheaper and, in some cases, free option to get from one place to another.
Public Transportation in the Hudson Valley, NY
Orange County offers rides on Transit Orange, with fares ranging from $1-$5. In Dutchess County, riders have access to Dutchess County Public Transit with fares starting at $1.75, and in Ulster County, riders can use Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) for free.
Ulster County Adds New Bus Routes
Residents who use the UCAT system for transportation in Ulster County will now have a couple of new options to get from one place to another.
According to a recent post on the Ulster County Executive Facebook page, UCAT has begun offering two new routes in Ulster County after receiving feedback from residents.
New Paltz Loop
The new routes will include the New Paltz loop, which will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. and offer residents more stops throughout New Paltz, including stops at Stewart's, Trailways, Tops, Shoprite, the SUNY New Paltz campus, and more.
Port Ewen Loop
The Port Ewen loop will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. and provide riders a transit option in addition to the Kingston Poughkeepsie Link bus that connects Port Ewen to Kingston, NY. The Port Ewen loop will serve the Birches in Port Ewen, the Broadway Corridor, Kingston Plaza, Development Court, and more.
More Changes Coming Soon in 2026
The post also stated that the county is planning to implement its "Route Optimization Plan" in 2026, which will add more service and make it easier and more convenient for residents to use the UCAT transit system for work, school, and other transportation needs.
