‘The Magnificent Seven’ Trailer: Chris Pratt and the Guardians of the Frontier
The bounty hunter, the gambler., the outlaw, the sharpshooter, the assassin, the warrior, and the tracker. Seven (a magnificent seven, if you will) against an army. And the army’s led by Peter Sarsgaard! I don’t like those odds.
I do like the trailer for the new Magnificent Seven, though. This remake of the 1960 John Sturges Western (itself inspired by the classic Akira Kurosawa samurai film, Seven Samurai,) comes from director Antoine Fuqua, reuniting with his Training Day stars, Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, who plays the sharpshooter of his brigade. He’s also got Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World megastar Chris Pratt as the Prattian sarcastic brigand of the group. Here’s the official synopsis:
Director Antoine Fuqua brings his modern vision to a classic story in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures’ and Columbia Pictures’ The Magnificent Seven. With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
Washington and Pratt look like a damn good team. In fact, I’m kind of bummed this one is set for the fall, and not the summer. We could use a good old fashioned Western right about now. The Magnificent Seven opens in theaters on September 23.
