Speeding and lack of driving experience appear to be the cause of a rollover crash that injured three teens.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. Thursday, a serious one-car rollover accident occurred on Middle Road in Rhinebeck. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 16-year old was traveling southwesterly on Middle Road near Pitcher road, when the teen lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn.

As a result, the front passenger, also 16-years old, suffered serious head injuries. The driver and a 15-year old rear passenger suffered minor injuries. The teen that suffered the serious injuries was transferred to Westchester Medical Center, where he remains at this time.

At this time, unsafe speed combined with lack of driving experience appear to be the primary factors of the crash. Investigation is continuing by members of the Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Unit.

More information will be released when it becomes available.
