Target announced Monday (2/28) that they will offer minimum wages that range from $15 to $24 an hour in the most competitive markets (New York being one) that have Target stores and distribution centers.

If you're currently looking for a new job or maybe you feel like you should be paid a higher wage, Target has just announced that they are ready to start paying employees more than any other retail store.

According to News 10, Target is doing everything it can to compete with other stores when it comes to hiring and keeping employees. Most companies are having a hard time finding people to work at stores and getting more employees. Target is set to offer starting wages as high as $24 an hour this year.

Target announced Monday (2/28) that they will offer minimum wages that range from $15 to $24 an hour, with the higher amounts being paid in locations including some in New York. Target currently pays a universal starting wage of $15 an hour and will raise that as part of their company plan to spend an additional $300 million on its labor force this year. Target CEO Brian Cornell told News 10, "We want to continue to have an industry-leading position."

What Target Stores Pay the Most?

Target didn't announce what store locations will receive the highest starting wages, but with 4+ Target locations across the Hudson Valley and most of them being extremely popular, we would hope that those stores will see higher wages. Target did say that they are still doing market analysis and once that's complete they will announce what areas will be getting the highest starting wage.

Who Pays More, Walmart, Target, Amazon?

As far as hourly wages, News 10 reports that back in 2017, Target announced it would pay employees $15 an hour by 2020. At the time they were the first to do so, but during the pandemic, companies like Amazon and Best Buy followed. Walmart remains behind the others but did raise its minimum wage to $12 last fall.

The higher wages announcement comes on the heels of Target also announcing recently they will soon be offering curbside returns and coffee at locations soon, more on that here.
