If you notice more police presence this holiday season, there is a reason for it.

According to the New York State Police. troopers have announced that they will be conducting security checks at all different places, including places of worship, bus and train stations, retail facilities including malls, vehicle rental facilities, and any other location where holiday events may be publicly celebrated in Dutchess, Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland counties.

The checks are all part of the Troopers counter terrorism strategy to remain vigilant and highly visible.

As a reminder police are asking all of us to be aware of any out of the ordinary behavior and if you notice any unattended suspicious packages, or suspicious activity, they are asking us to contact law enforcement.

Always keep in mind that if you do observe suspicious activity, do not confront the individual and try to remember as many details of their suspicious activity as possible, and from a safe place contact police by calling 911 or the Safe NY Tipline at 1-866-SAFE-NYS.

The security checks are going to happen now, through the end of the holiday season.
