Starbucks Closing Hundreds of Stores Including New York Location

One of the biggest names in coffee has announced that it plans to close numerous stores and lay off almost one thousand employees.

Starbucks has announced that it is planning to close select stores across the nation and lay off 900 employees as the company begins a $1 billion restructuring plan.

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol informed employees of the company's restructuring plan in a memo on Thursday, saying they are slashing 900 employees at stores in North America, according to ABC 7. Niccol didn't specify which stores would be closing, but did say that the closures would result in approximately a 1% decline in the total number of Starbucks locations in North America for this fiscal year.

Currently, Starbucks has 18,734 locations across North America and is expecting to have 18,300 locations when its fiscal year ends this weekend. If the math is correct, that means approximately 430+ stores could be closing soon, but which locations?

What Starbucks Are Closing?

Starbucks employees at stores across the country have begun sharing online that their stores were closing, according to 9 News. Based on that information, the news station was able to cross-check listings on the Starbucks website and has identified at least 90 of the Starbucks stores that are set to close.

The Starbucks expected to close include stores in Arkansas (2), Arizona (1), California (32), Colorado (2), Delaware (1), Georgia (1), Illinois (4), Iowa (2), Kansas (1), Louisiana (3), Massachusetts (5), Minnesota (6), North Carolina (1), Oklahoma (1), Oregon (15), Pennsylvania (2), Texas (6), Virginia (1), and Washington (5).

Are Any New York Starbucks Closing?

Currently, there is only one New York store set to close! The Starbucks located at 2 S Greeley Ave in Chappaqua, NY, is the only New York location mentioned as of writing.
