Speed Limit Changes Coming to Dutchess County Road

Did you know that the speed limit throughout New York State is lower than many other U.S states? 55 miles-per-hour is the maximum speed limit, that is of course unless posted otherwise, according to sixt.com.

Personally, I didn't know that little tib bit of New York driving information. But then again, I don't even know the speed limit for Route 9D off the top of my head, which I take daily.

So it's probably a good idea that the East Fishkill Police Department is reminding drivers that there will be a reduced speed limit on a popular East Fishkill road.

On Friday, April 15th, the East Fishkill Police Department shared the following on their social media accounts:

The East Fishkill Police Department would like to make everyone aware that starting on May 1st, 2022, the speed limit on Lake Walton Road will be reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph. We want to give the community time to adjust to this change and we encourage everyone to spread the word to as many people as you can.

If you or someone you know travels on Lake Walton Road in the East Fishkill area, let them know of the changes coming on May 1st.

With that being said, April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. New York State Police Superintendent Kevin P. Bruen said in a statement:

Distracted Driving continues to be a leading factor in motor vehicle crashes. Yet, the deaths and injuries caused by distracted driving are 100 percent preventable. Drivers must be aware of their surroundings and consciously reduce distractions and behaviors that take their attention from the road.

Operation Hang Up, which increased patrols and added checkpoints targeting drivers using electronic devices, ran until April 11th, 2022.
