With Battery Backup, You’re in Charge
Those of us on the east coast have certainly been keeping a wary eye on the extreme heat, wildfires and power outages that have plagued the west for the last several years. Not to mention the intense hurricanes and extended rainfalls that have caused significant damage in our own communities. The truth is, we need to concede that the effects of climate change will continue to challenge us for the foreseeable future. And while that’s disheartening, it doesn’t mean we’re powerless to reduce some of the impact in our daily lives when things get dicey.
Here’s where onsite energy storage can make a big difference. Those who are taking steps or have already installed solar panels may have the opportunity to add solar battery backup, which can keep the lights on—as well as the heat, well pump, refrigerator, oven, and internet—when weather or other factors disrupt utility provided power. Or simply when it’s nighttime and you want to tap the renewable energy you generated during the day.
HOW IT WORKS
Your solar panels and your battery unit are like a dynamic duo, each with an important job to do to support your energy needs. Panels gather energy during the day and feed it to the battery so you can store solar energy to use it when you want or need to. Here’s a short animation to show you what we mean.
A home battery backup system is a quiet, clean alternative to a home generator, which requires regular maintenance in order to be functional when you need it most. Meanwhile, battery backup is seamless, automatically and silently kicking on in the event of a power disruption. The transition is so fast, as one satisfied SunCommon customer put it, “When the battery kicks in, even the clock is not stopping.” In fact, he has a lot of good things to say about his experience.
